Privacy Policy

Fix My Speaker runs in your browser and keeps almost nothing. This page lists the two settings saved on your device and the basic request data any web host sees.

In one paragraph
Every sound on this site is created by your own browser. We never switch on your microphone, never upload audio, and run no analytics, adverts or user accounts. Two small preferences are remembered on your device so the tools open the way you left them.

Scope

Everything on https://fixmyspeaker.dev, run by the independent Fix My Speaker project. Send any privacy question to hello@fixmyspeaker.dev and we will reply personally.

Where the sound comes from

The cleaner and the speaker test are built on the Web Audio API, a standard part of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. Pressing Start tells your browser to synthesise a tone locally and send it straight to the speaker. No recording or audio file travels over the network, and we receive no signal about which tones you play.

Because the tools only produce sound, they have no reason to listen. The site never requests microphone permission and cannot tell whether water has left your speaker — your ears make that call.

Two device features can be used while a tone is playing, where your browser supports them: the vibration motor (only if you tick that option) and a screen wake lock that stops the display sleeping mid-run. Both work entirely on the device.

Information your browser sends

Loading any web page involves a request to a server. That request carries your IP address, a browser identification string, the time and the address of the page. The server needs those details to deliver the page; we do not combine them into profiles, sell them, or pass them to marketers.

Things we never gather

  • Names, email addresses or passwords — the site has no sign-up.
  • Sound of any kind, because the microphone is never touched.
  • A history of the tones, frequencies or run lengths you choose.
  • Visit counts, heatmaps or other analytics.
  • Advertising identifiers, retargeting tags or social-media pixels.

What stays in your browser

We set no cookies. Two entries are written to your browser's localStorage:

  • theme — records light or dark mode once you use the theme button.
  • fms:cleaner — the cleaner's last-used run length, volume, custom frequency, waveform, and the pulse and vibration switches.

These values are read only by pages on this site and are never transmitted. Clearing the site's data in your browser settings removes them, after which the defaults return.

Our hosting provider

A hosting company stores and delivers the pages for us. It may log incoming requests — typically IP address, timestamp and URL — to defend against attacks and keep the service stable, and keeps those logs for its usual period. It handles them only to operate the hosting service.

Guides link to outside sources such as Apple Support. Those websites follow their own privacy rules once you open them.

Visitors in the UK, EU and EEA

Request data is processed so that we can deliver the pages you open, and because we have a legitimate interest in a secure, working website. Preferences in your browser's storage exist because you used the tools, and they never reach us.

Data protection law lets you request a copy of personal data we hold, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to its processing, and lodge a complaint with your national regulator. We keep no accounts or named records, so in practice there is rarely anything to retrieve — but email us and we will look.

Young visitors

The site is meant for a general audience and is not aimed at children younger than 13. It gathers no personal information from visitors of any age beyond the request data described above.

Updates to this policy

When something here changes in a meaningful way, we revise the date at the top and summarise the change on this page. Analytics, adverts or any other data collection would be announced here before being switched on.
